It is time again for Audubon’s annual photography contest. Last year, they created a “Fine Art” category—meaning, you can manipulate the photos to your heart’s content :-). That motivated me to submit 10 images, one of which—Tapestry—made the semi-finals. Anyway, here is the first of my submissions for 2016:

Thanks, Pam! The one in the foreground was walking though my yard, stalking a sparrow. The sparrow was behaving so strangely I thought the poor thing had gone insane. Then the heron stepped into view and I realized the sparrow was trying to draw the heron away from its nest. I guess it worked because the heron followed the sparrow out into the ivy, but came up empty handed…..er….beaked. I’ve seen Killdeer do that routine many times, but never a sparrow.
